roosevelt road: the land that time forgot [ 2003-01-11, 10:35 a.m. ]

roosevelt road has to be one of the dingiest drives in the greater chicagoland area. from the city limits out to elgin it runs through the "old" sections of most of the western suburbs. i love driving it though because whole sections of it look exactly like they did in the 1970's. some of my fave sights on roosevelt:

- strip malls with "massage" parlors and korean groceries

- the weird camoflauged building in lombard that sells supplies for the armed and paranoid

- "house of rattan" in elmhurst - all rattan, all the time

- the sign at michael's pizzeria in glen ellyn that reads "HAPPY NEW YEAR. PIZZA SLICES!!!!!", which for some reason struck me as hilarious today

- the unintentionally ironic billboard for "Diamond's Gentleman's Club" which features a skanky blonde and the words "Diamonds - no longer a girl's best friend". no kidding.

- the sign for the Lombard Pines shopping center - a stylized 60's sign that i hope to steal one day

thisaway - thataway
