Austin and parts beyond. [ 2003-12-09, 8:44 a.m. ]

S. is at work today so I thought I would give you all a little synopsis of the visit so far...

The house is huge. I had not actually laid eyes on it until this weekend. (S. searched it out and I'd seen a complete digital tour of the interior and exterior, but this was the first in-person visit.) There is enough land here that we could have livestock. We're thinking about getting some goats. There are two big garden plots on the second acre which we will put to good use this Spring. Behind the house is an old cistern which has rusted in a beautiful patterrn of small holes. So many trees....a swing out in the back of the old corral...a shed in which we found some really cool old ceramic transformers. (We also found a stash of old pickle jars, which for anyone who knows my obsession with pickles, somehow makes perfect sense.)

The interior of the house is much bigger than it looked in the pictures and is in good shape. The pink bathroom kicks ass. The old heater on the wall turns into a stained-glass-like work of art when it is fired up. The kitchen has old wood cabinets and lots of storage...a nice 60's era countertop, and two big windows that look out into the back acreage. The bedrooms are big (one is painted a color that doesn't thrill me but that's easy to change if we want to...) Lots of closet space and room for visitors...

I have to leave this afternoon and it is going to be the most wrenching departure I have made from anyplace in a long, long time.
