Last night, S. and I attended a show by Austin's female drag troupe, KINGS 'N' THINGS and it kicked ass. S.'s friend A. is a member of the troupe and I can say somewhat objectively that her skits were the best. Most of the skits are lip-synched but some are sung live. The funniest one started with a king strumming Outkast's "Hey-ya" on an acoustic guitar, gently singing the song to an assembled group that looked like the Von Trapp family gone wrong; after a verse or two, the actual recorded song started blaring over the sound system and the real fun began. It was highly entertaining and these women have an incredible energy and sense of humor in what they're doing. It was so, so fun to watch. I know Chicago has a pretty large Drag King ensemble and I'm sure there are others around the country -- I heartily recommend you check out your local Kings.
