Wurstfest!! [ 2004-11-10, 8:30 p.m. ]

On Sunday, S. and I attended the annual Wurstfest in New Braunfels. What is Wurstfest, you ask? Why, it's the Ten Day Salute To Sausage, of course! New Braunfels is a wonderful little town with a crazy roundabout through the town square, lots of old buildings and apparently, lots of men of all ages who like to dress up in lederhosen once a year.
~~~
The fest is held on the official Wurstfest Grounds in the town park -- these people do NOT mess around. There were music tents, a beer garden, a huge dance hall and attached to that, the food/souvenir/concession building. The proceeds from all of the booths went to local groups like the Elks or the Little League team, which gave it a pretty authentic hometown fair feeling. I got a kickass knitted hat from some nice little old ladies at the VFW Women's booth. In a moment of hostile weirdness, S. had to repeatedly decline the request of a woman at another booth that he wear one of her beer-mug shaped hats. "You don't have to BUY it, just walk around and tell people where they can get one!" Erm...no.
Fine, fine people watching and although I don't eat meat, it sure smelled good. I had a sauerkraut sandwich that for some reason took extra long to make because it didn't have meat on it, but hey, whatever. S. and I made good use of our drink tickets and ended up with a stack of plastic cups bearing silent, sticky witness to our afternoon of excess.
Meat!
Hmm...Do I want the wurst taco or the pork chop on a stick?
Mmmm...Wurstfest Wasser....
Festive trailer on the river.
And finally, I give you this televangelist-in- training, who was grabbing clumps of grass and thrusting them upwards...
HEEEEAAAALLLLLLL!
