S. and I have two gorgeous persimmon trees on our property. This year the fruit has been especially plentiful. Today, a man knocked on the door and said he'd been picking fruit off the tree periodically over the past few years and would it be okay for him to pick some today? It turns out he's an arborist and he said our larger tree is "probably the finest specimen of Hachiya persimmon in Austin". He thinks the tree is at least 60 years old and that it was probably planted from a graft from trees originated by FT Ramsey, who owned what was the biggest nursery in Texas. This excites me. Because I'm a dork.
