Everybody's working for the weekend. [ 2006-06-25, 10:54 p.m. ]

Unless you're S. and me, in which case you're working ON the weekend. Two weeks ago one of S.'s high-profile clients asked him to do a cocktail party for 100 at her home. Because he's the talented professional he is, he told her yes. The event was scheduled for this Saturday. Thursday afternoon he got a call from the client's assistant informing him that the numbers had doubled. S. managed to pull it off magnificently -on top of his 40-hour week cooking elsewhere, no less. (And just to give you an idea of what this really entailed - S. does all of his private chef work virtually by himself. Menu planning, shopping, presentation - it's all him. A couple of friends and I helped with prep and serving but the bulk of the work was done by S. on-site.)

I can't say much about it but there was a former president, two former first ladies and various children of various presidents in attendance and it was AMAZING. S. made some truly incredible food, the attendees were all very nice and I got to listen to a talk by a person whom I consider the only living former president who has proven himself to be a hands-on, no bullshit humanitarian and just plain nice person. And he hugged me.
