While gardening this morning, I witnessed a wicked fight between a male cardinal and a bluejay. The jay attacked the cardinal's nest and for a few seconds they were fighting in mid-air; all wings and squawking and flying feathers. They flew into the field next to the garden and continued battling on the ground until the jay finally flew off.

Here's a thought: If someone cuts you off while crossing the street, don't whack their car with a souvenir baseball bat. (Unless, of course, you can outrun a bullet.) I like the way all the news outlets are pointing out that the shooting victim - although he had just attended a Cubs game - was a Sox fan, as if that is the ultimate irony in all of this.

In other news, Donald Rumsfeld is a sorry bastard. He's also an evil fucker. Someone pointed out in Slate (too lazy to look up the link) that even Richard Nixon didn't trust this guy. I'm just sayin'...
